If you are handy with Google translate or read French, you may want to read two articles on the newly created chief engraver of the Paris mint in CGB's Bulletin Numismatique, december 2020, pages 38-41.

Some highlights:

  • An explanation of the new chief engraver's mark, that will replace that of Hubert Yves Sampo.
  • How old and new engraving techniques should co-exist.
  • Collector coins are medals.
  • How collector coins may interest non-collectors.
  • With what thought Astérix was put on a collector coin.
  • What is interesting about circulation coins.
  • Why he is not impressed with every Frenchman using his work.
  • What he thinks about the future of circulating coins.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Thank you for the info - quite interesting indeed! The name that you mention looks like an amalgamation though: Hubert (Larivière) and (Yves) Sampo. ;)  Just noticed that you can even download the entire issue as a PDF file ...
