After over two years of hard work Bob Hewey and Jim Delaney have finally completed 'Prison Tokens, Coupons and Scrip of the United States and Canada.' 389 pages in full color and downloadable for free.

The book is on the Newman Numismatic Portal published by the libraries of Washington University in St. Louis. To get your copy go to: https://nnp.wustl.edu/library/book/589917

To open the free download scroll down to the title page on a black background. In the lower-left, you will see the title (in white lettering). Click that to open the download page. Scroll down and select the type of format you wish and enjoy.

Thanks Malcolm! Nice catalog!
I looked with interest to find out something new about my theme of tokens for islands.

ps. However, I discovered that not all tokens for Alcatraz Island are displayed in the catalog. I will look in my archive to see what else I can add ..

These 25 cents are probably missing from the list:

Many thanks, Mal. The NNP is a wonderful resource that I've used many times. I'll definitely download the book as it's a subject I'm really interested in.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

I am interested in this one question. Four American colonies are known to exist, but tokens are only known for Alcatraz Island. Are there such tokens for the other three? :

malj1, what do you say about this McNeil Island prison ferry token?
This token is not mentioned in the catalog:

There a numerous tokens not listed in the new prison token catalog. They must have been used as a medium of exchange. Commemorative, souvenir, or gift shop tokens are not listed. Yes, Bob Hewey and I have missed many tokens and we have already added more since this catalog was published. The nice thing about putting a catalog out there is people become very eager to tell you they have one not listed. When I created the catalog for car wash tokens it quickly grew from just a few thousand to over 13,000 individual listings in just a few years. My hope is the prison catalog will do the same.

This is an interesting business and fun, I wish you the best of luck with that! Thanks.
ps: If you find out about any unique tokens or exonumies about the islands, please let me know.
Rikers Island, for example, has about seven exonumies and I have photographs of these items (challenge coins), but these are not tokens and you are unlikely to be interested in this ..

Please tell me what tokens existed for Deer Island in Massachusetts? Do you have any information about сommemorative, souvenir, or gift shop tokens for this island? Do you have photos or other information about this?
