Can anybody recomend a reference book on Hungarian coinage? I would like a "Redbook" type that would cover "modern" issues (1848ish to date) and a "Spink" style that would cover from 900AD ish.. I would prefer English language, but with pictures, numbers and Google translate, I'd get by Hungarian text. Please, if anybody could supply Title, author, and ISBN, I would be grateful.

Thanks!

The standard catalogue for Hungarian coins is Münzkatalog Ungarn von 1000 bis Heute by Lajos Huszar ISBN-13: 978-3870451622. It covers the period from 997 to 1978.

You can get a useful extract in English online by searching for Coins and Kings of Hungary by David Ruckser.

There seems to be a book on Slavonian coins, not covered by Huszar, by Éva Halász, but I haven't found its title.

For modern coins, an online cataloguing site like Numista will do.

More specialised books here.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

I just collect the Arpad dynasty 900-1300, but find Huszar very useful, as it cross references to Ungar as well, and even I manage to cope with most of the German. No recommendation for the modern coinage though I'm afraid.
