The Spanish flower is a type of coin flan shape. It consists of a smooth edge separated into equal sections by a number of indents. At least two coin issuers, the European Union and Fiji, have mentioned explicitly that the Spanish flower shape was chosen to help the visually-impaired.

The Spanish 50 peseta coins issued between 1990 and 2000 were the first to feature the Spanish flower shape.

All the national versions of the euro 20 cents coin have the same physical Spanish flower format.

It famously insists that every coin has three sides, not just two, and it therefore always shows the third side, namely the edge.

Another recent Spanish flower design is the new Sri Lanka 2 Rupees.

However, as per Kavan Ratnatunga, numismatic authority on Sri Lanka

"The Rs 2 coin has been made 30% smaller with the diameter reduced from 28.3 to 22 mm. Seven notches have been cut into the side of the Rs 2 coin to make it more easily identified by the visually impaired people. Identified as the Spanish_flower type of coin flan shape, consists of a smooth edge separated into equal sections by seven indents.
However unlike the clear about 0.5 mm depth indents illustrated in the line drawing sent to the Kremnica mint, the indents when realised had a hardly measurable depth of maybe 0.1 mm, which gave me hardly any signal when rubbing finger around coin edge. The blind maybe more sensitive, but the international standard for Braille is 0.48 mm, which the notch is clearly not."
