I found this interesting counterstamp on a 1909 US Quarter Eagle and would appreciate someone translating it for me. It appears to be in Hebrew.
I don't know if it's a modern stamp or one dating back closer to the issue date of the coin. Counterstamps on gold coins (Rare!) are difficult to date using toning and wear patterns as a guide. Gold coins generally don't tone and the incuse design of this coin makes grading difficult. The coin looks new as does the stamp, so there's very little else to go on.
Many thanks for your help.

With the help of someone who knows Hebrew, it says 'Shaddai' (שדי) which is one of the names of the God of Judaism. Other names to refer to their God are YHWH, El, Eloah, Elohim etc.

Thanks, eurocoin. It would be interesting to know why it was stamped on the coin. Counterstamps in any language other than English on US coins is highly unusual.
