Military cooperative token from Poland
« on: July 17, 2020, 08:35:32 PM »
I have the following token:
Round, brass, 22 mm
O: SPOLDZINIA / (flag with) JADZA  / Z O. U.
R: gr. 50 gr / (ornament)

I found another one listed on Numisbids, Poznański Dom Aukcyjny & Podlaski Gabinet Numizmatyczny Auction 15  19 January 2013, with the following description: Monety zastępcze spółdzielni wojskowych. 50 groszy, Centrum Wyszkolenia Kawalerii, Grudziądz, Bartoszewicki 194/4 R8b, The google translation is as follows: Replacement coins for military cooperatives. 50 groszy, Cavalry Training Center, Grudziądz, Bartoszewicki 194/4 R8b

So it is a token from a military cooperative, a cavalry training center.
Bartoszewicki 194/4 R8b, probably is the catalog reference.
When was this token issued and what is this "Bartoszewicki 194/4 R8b"

The correct text is: SPÓŁDZIELNIA / JAZDA / Z O. U.

SPÓŁDZIELNIA Z O. U. = Spółdzielnia (cooperative) z odpowiedzialnością udzialami. “odpowiedzialnością udzialami” is a legal term. I do not know the correct translation, but my understanding is that the members of the cooperative are responsible only up to their shares.

JAZDA (ride, also cavalry) could be the name of the cooperative.

Wikipedia says that the Cavalry Training Center in Grudziądz existed between 1920 and 1939 (with different names).

Mirosław Bartoszewicki is the author of “Katalog-cennik polskich monet wojskowych 1925-1939”.
