Ecuador coins
« on: June 20, 2020, 08:11:18 AM »
Hi all, are the year 2000 and 2003 issued coins for Ecuador still valid in Ecuador (alongside US coinage), or all they no longer legal tender? Looking for answers especially from residents or those who have traveled recently. Thanks

My interpretation of this site is that local coins of 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 cents circulate at par with US coins. Banknotes are exclusively USD.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

I've asked Ecuadorians and they tell me that they still circulate, despite not being issued for 20 years. I've been buying and swapping for the coins in the hundreds at pennies on the dollar so I want to make sure it's not all for nothing. Thanks :)
