More serious, what was the Djibouti port like? Just another port? A dark, evil place infested with peg-leg pirates with eye patches? Something in-between? Is that steamer gone now? I presume the dhows still scoot around...

A modern port which is the life line for Ethiopia and Eritrea. Gained importance after inaccessibility of Aden (which is not far) due conflict . The modern half of the port is owned by Chinese. The city itself is not very big.
Dhows are generally seen near Somalia, Oman and Makran coast of Pakistan.
