£5 - The British Crown - Part 3.

The £5 version of the crown will be covered in this section in year order.   The format is changed slightly to bring it in line with other series that I am preparing for the future.

DETAILS COMMON to all these coins in BASE-METAL:-

Metal cupro-nickel (75% copper, 25% nickel)
Diameter 38.61mm
Weight 28.28grams
Thickness 2.89mm

SILVER versions in •925 sterling silver.   GOLD in 22 carat gold.   PLATINUM is used for some issues.
PIEDFORT coins are somewhat thicker.

Proof details and so on will be given where available.   The word 'Circulation' refers to the standard of production and not method of distribution.   I am uncertain whether 'rare metal' version quantities are actual or maximum authorised.

Aha!   Something that I hadn't noticed before.   On the reverse, near the edge at about the four-o'clock position, in relief on the coin, is something looking like an '@' sign.   The right half of it could be 'D'.  Designer was Mary Milner-Dickens so could it be 'her mark'?

Any suggestions?

At last I'm able to continue this series.

Scans of the '2000 Millennium with Dome Mintmark' are now posted (received the coin this morning).

I've done a bit of tidying up here, but see that we're still waiting for comments on what might be the designer's initials on the '2001 Queen Victoria Memorial' in the previous post to this.

More will follow as I rebuild my database and prepare scans.

This is just a "holding message" to say that I have spent several days working on the £5 listings for the new KM.   A lot has come to light, so when I have checked the final draft, I willl be able to use the info here to continue this series.

Brief comment "There are too many new varieties of Collector Coins being produced!"   But at least we hope to get the KM numbers right for base-metal and hopefully silver ones.   Complete editing and listing might not be possible for the 2011 edition of KM for 21st Century, but at least every type should have a KM number, even if the off-metal strikes (usually shown with a suffix) are not complete.

This series will be continued soon.
