dating Jodhpur 1/4 annas
« on: March 24, 2020, 06:07:13 AM »
Hi. I am confused about the dating of the 1/4 annas of George VI ( KM# 141, 142...)
Krause says these coins are dated but I cannot distinguish dates on the coins that I have and I cannot really make the type of them. I attach two of them, which for me look a little different, so maybe they are different KMs but I am not sure.
Could you help? Thanks

I don't claim any expertise on these coins. Looking at the pictures of KM 141 and 142 in KM, I see that the date is at the very top of the reverse. On your coins, that area is off-flan, in other words, your coins show more of the lower part of the die. Therefore, your coins cannot be dated. Your only chance is to find a coin struck with the same reverse die, but showing the upper part.

Differences on these coins are normal. The dies were cut by hand.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
