Hi coinmembers,

does anyone know the existing of countermarked "M" VOC Doits struck for Saint Martin ( Dutch Antilles )

It is highly unlikely that VOC coins ver circulated on the island. As a consequence of the Treaty of Utrecht (1713), it was illegal for the VOC to trade in the West Indies. This became the territory of a separate company, the WIC - West India Company. Moreover, a VOC duit was worth more than Dutch duit, so even if one had arrived, it would have been exported for profit immediately. The counterstamp you describe is probably a fantasy. Many such fantasies have been reported.

Countermark  M on a VOC Doit Holland 1755

Any ideas?

As extra information, this coin was in at a Schulman auction in the 90'ties.
