I would expect that the token was used to un-lock the device holding the phone being charged, so that the owner could remain mobile. French shopping centres offer similar installations for motorbike helmets. You leave the helmet locked in the cabinet and receive a key to be used on returning.

The second picture reminds me of generic tokens produced by Eurocoin, formerly in London.

The token is being used as follows:

1. You have to go to the shop where the tokens are being sold (near the machine).
2. You have to buy a token.
3. You choose one of the lockers of the machine and connect your phone to the charger in that locker.
4. You have to insert the token into the machine. After the token has been inserted, check if the machine has started charging your phone.
5. Close the door of the locker your phone is in and take the key with you.

Verified information, as always.

TD is a mark that refers to TokensDirect which is a division of Osborne Coinage. Osborne Coinage is a private mint in Cincinnati, Ohio.

I didn't know Osborne coinage was still in operation. Used to be known as the Osborne Register Co. I've come across a lot of tokens over the years that they've manufactured.

Thanks for the information I had thought this was the way it was used but good to have the local knowledge and confirmation. I do have other similar tokens that are used for lockers.

I think they may have been struck from rusty reverse dies. here it is again a little bigger.

i think thery are intentionally made like this.
the ring with stripes is perfect.
and the 'faults' are the same on our tokens.

About 7 years ago I got a British piece with the "TD" mint mark.

>>>>
British token - seemingly a machine token - central stylised depiction of facing elephant with “BLAIR DRUMMOND” above-around and “SAFARI & ADVENTURE PARK” below-around // slightly above-centre stylised depiction of a 4-toed paw print with slightly smaller “NO CASH VALUE” below-around and “TD”mint mark at around 4 o/c. This attraction is near Stirling, Scotland. “TD” believed to be from U.S.A. Brass, 25mm, plain rims and edge.
>>>>

At that time I also got two pieces with the reverse as seen on tokens shown here already i.e....

>>>>
“NO” (large) / “CASH” (medium) / “VALUE“ (medium) as central group of three flat lines with “TD” mintmark below and detached ring of dentilations right around border.
>>>>

One of those two pieces I detailed as having an obverse....

>>>>
with seemingly a weak entwined “OC” mint mark (Osborne Coinage) at 6 o/c close to the plain rim
>>>>

Thanks Mr Paul Baker

Here is my Blair Drummond reverse. I have four of these and the OC is not shown on any of these as far as I can tell. apparently a different reverse?

Whereabouts should I look to confirm?

I should perhaps have said...

At that time I also got two pieces (of other issuers) with the reverse as seen on tokens shown here already i.e....

So my OC TD piece is not Blair Drummond.

Thanks Mr Paul Baker
