In 1935 Canada issued its first dollar with the famous reverse design showing 'Le Voyageur'.

The obverse legend was 'GEORGIVS V REX IMPERATOR ANNO REGNI XXV'.

This translates as 'George V, King and Emperor, 25th year of reign.'

The coin was issued again in 1936, but this time with the standard obverse legend.

As you probably know, Canada's current design series was started in 1937, when the first coins of King George VI appeared.

The reverse design of the dollar coin, 'Le Voyageur', was retained for the new design series.

Whether these silver dollars ever circulated in Canada is another matter.

I can imagine that you start wondering when you see specimen like the above. However, small Canadian dealers have currency George V dollars worn to the bone. The commemoratives are usually better. The halves are another story. I was told there was significant demand for them in the West of Canada, but not in the East. Eventually, the approach of the East won.
