I had a field day in today's coin fair, where I bought more than twenty fantasy banknotes.

What a great fun collection! Most seem advertising, but I also spotted an educational/play money note. I am intrigued by the note with the Chinese characters. Any idea what that one is all about?

These kinds of things really are interesting and fun to collect. I wish I could read some of wording on the smaller notes, especially the ones depicting US money...the 55 speed limit, etc. I would imagine these are all advertising pieces.

I have a few examples of this type of material but no pictures. Some are used as advertising for coin dealers who would give them out at coin shows. I'll have to look them up and snap a few pictures.

Funeral notes (or Hell Banknotes) are used in funeral ceremonies in many Asian countries (China, Hong Kong, Mauritius, Vietnam, etc.) to provide the deceased with money and property in the afterlife.
The term "Hell" means the place where the dead go, and does not have the same negative connotation as in the Christian world.
A wide variety of banknotes are produced in different sizes, colours and face values. The richer the deceased, the greater the amount of funeral money burned at the funeral.
This ancestral tradition is still respected toda

I have a Hell Banknote, Gerard, but it was converted to an advertising piece. I'm not sure if its an authentic banknote or a reproduction that was overprinted. I'll have to check it out.

Here's a Hell Bank Note from my collection over stamped with an advertisement.

By the way, C.B. Yohe was an engineer who dabbled in magic. He became an amateur magician in 1941 and later turned to mail order book selling. Apparently, his specialty was "conjuring books." Bethel Park is a suburb of Philadelphia.
