French Liard 169x & - help read date?
« on: December 13, 2019, 09:20:27 PM »
This coin was identified as 1697, however, in looking at Krause's 1600's coins, I only show 1693, 94, 98 and 99.

The final number looks like a half moon to me, which leads me to consider it as 1693 UNLESS there's an omission in Krause.

Can anyone read the date and offer an opinion? Thank you!

Taking character spacing into account, I would support 1697.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
