Assist Request - Two Coins Possibly from India
« on: December 13, 2019, 09:17:55 PM »
Greetings! I found these in a collection, identified only as 'India'. I'm hoping to narrow it down a bit. The one on top appears to have Arabic script, but I'm not 100% certain, the other, I can't guess.

Size/Weight:

Top: 3.1g, 15mm

Bottom: 3.2g, 17mm

Thanks in advance for the assists!

Hi,
The top one:
Alauddin Khilji, Billon 6 Gani, AH (7)13, G&G D0232 (I think)

The second one:
Hindu shahis of Kabul and Ohind.
The left image needs to be rotated 180 degree to show the bull.
The right one needs to be rotated 90 degree right to show the horse rider with lance.
An early jital with legend "samantadeva" on top of the bull.
Thanks,
Saikat

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Thank you so much for helping run this down! Here's the rotated image. Do you have an idea of a date-range for this jital? Also, it kind of looks like billon too. Does you know about that? Thanks so much.

Hi,
My list says these are during the period 850-1000 AD. These were initially made from silver but then slowly became billion. I have some that are almost coppery. Your one looks like bilion and hence might be of intermediate period.
Thanks,
Saikat
