Moroccan coin
« on: December 02, 2019, 06:58:14 AM »
I've no idea were I might have picked this up.  I thought possibly in Portugal but I'm not sure.  I'm having a hard time with an identification.  2 grams and just over 1 cm.  Thanks! Great little coin.

Not far geographically from Portugal - this comes from just across the Straits of Gibraltar, in Morocco. 5 santimat (cents).

The 1 dirham coin of the same series was almost precisely the same size as the UK shilling/large 5 pence, and as the German 1 Deutsche Mark, so it was not unknown to get them in change in strange places.

I now recall!  We had aircraft issues and ended up staying over in the Azores for five days for maintenance.  Wine, cheese and golf is about all I can recall, though  ;D

What a happy coincidence to have aircraft issues that force you to land in a popular tourist destination. I bet the crew looked totally innocent getting off the plane, not at all looking forward to their disgusting diet of wine and cheese.

It reminds me of the time I was on my way to Taiwan and two ministries were fighting over whether I could go there. A week in Singapore with an expense account and nothing to do was my punishment. >:D

A week in Singapore with an expense account must have been horrible!  We managed to have aircraft issues in some interesting places.  We were stuck in Bermuda for over a week!  Didn't have an expense account but we did get per-diem (though I did have pay for a rental scooter that got a little out of hand 8)  Same in the Seychelles (less the scooter incident :-)
