L.CPL THATCHER CW 322087 6TH LONDON REGT all engraved on a French Emperor Napoleon 10 centimes. The date 18XX is unreadable as the hole is through the last two digits.

These dog tags are really interesting, especially those that supply enough information to make them identifiable. I have a few in my collection, but haven't seriously collected them.

I don't recall ever seeing one double holed like yours. Maybe worn as a wrist band or "bracelet" of sorts. A well executed tag.

Found his army number 322087 here. C is for Charles. His record there says he's still a private, not a lance corporal. Open an account to learn more and get their nag mails.

I see that record is for 1914 so he was quite likely to have been  made a lance corporal later. I got part of the info by taking a screenshot in the split second before the pop up appeared.

Regarding the two holes, I had thought too that he may have sown it onto his kit bag as identification.

That's more likely, I think. Where ever he attached it, it shows signs of being jostled about. The top hole in particular shows significant wear.
