Post-Maitraka / Post-Kalachuri ?
« on: August 14, 2019, 04:36:12 PM »
Hello,
Do you have some informations about this copper coin ?

Observe : seated king, cross-legged ?
Reverse : Degraded bust or bird to left ?

I found the reference Pieper 909 for this one, but I don't have access to this catalog.
I can only assume it was minted between the 8th and 10th century in western / central India (Chavda or Chalukya dynasty maybe ?).

1.41g, 10mm

I do not know the coin, but here is the entry from Pieper (Ancient Indian Coins Revisited, 2103).

Thanks !
I guess there are no more informations available for it yet.
I found two other samples on zeno, both from the same hoard I guess but nothing else on the web unfortunately.

It seems they are some variations on the reverse side. Probably a local issue ?
