The scan is much better, but the photoshop is pretty useless! I usually scan pages at 150dpi then compress if needed.

Thanks, Malcolm ! I appreciate your help.

I have no way to compress except to reduce the quality in Photoshop, and thus the file size.  I'll explore further. Usually, for photo work, I use the largest file size possible for the best photo quality.

But, getting back to the original topic of the Canal Book, I think it's a pretty good book - a lot of interesting info and photos of the tokens. I've already found and bought two - the Bristol Bridge Token and the Newark Castle and River Trent Token.

See this thread for suggestions on re-sizing and image manipulation software. The most popular free application for PC pilots is Photoscape. Note that there are also free web-based re-sizers.

My memory  :-X tells me that in one of C.S. Forester's Hornblower books, his hero solves a perilous situation on a canal boat and the canal in question figures on a token. I have been leafing through the books, but couldn't find what I was looking for. I now have doubts on the scene and even more doubts on the token, but who knows?

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Yes the book looks to be interesting.

I shall see what tokens I have that relate to this theme.

Peter  - Good info on the resizing - I'll try some of the suggestions. Thank you.

Malcolm - yes, I'd be very interested in seeing what you have. You are a very interesting and knowledgeable collector.

Myself,  I would very much like a Beccles Bridge token but $599 seems a bit steep. I'm a bit ignorant regarding the values of these so that might actually be a reasonable price.

Perhaps someone else can chime in on values. Always happy to learn something and this forum seems to be the perfect place for that.

I just did a quick search on UK eBay and found three Beccles bridge tokens listed @ £68; £69.99; and a poor one at £18.95

Thanks, Malcolm !

That's VERY helpful. I will see if I can find them from here.

Speaking of canals, here are two pictures I took in Amsterdam in September of 2011. I resized them with PicResize.

Hi, Malcolm.

Just bought one of the Beccles tokens off the eBay UK site — really appreciate the advice !

I only found a token of the Iron brdge at Coalbrookdale so far, this is to be seen here along with a modern series used in the museum.

Very nice, Malcolm.  I also have that token.

Thanks for the reference - I do have the catalogue by Josef Sa'ar. He has several images there as well.

These tokens really are fascinating !
