Thank you yougotmi for posting this coin, this is a very common Iraqi coin; 1981 the only 50 Fils minted at Royal Canadian Mint, Ottawa, whilst 1969, 70, 72, 75, 79, 80 & 1990 were minted at the  British Royal Mint, London. It is made of Nickel-Copper alloy and its standard weight is 5.5 gm and the standard diameter is 23 mm. The number of coins struck of this type in Canada 138,995,000 pieces. In your post you put the diameter as 1.2 mm which is incorrect.
For this series of 50 Fils coins, the 1979 issue is scarce, as only 1,500,000 pieces were minted. In Iraq at that time the 50 Fils coin (called Dirham) was greatly used for daily life needs, but because of inflation as time went on, its value became very small due to the Iraq-Iran war (1981 until 1988) during which 1 US Dollar was equivalent to more than 60,000 times the value of one dirham (50 Fils). At present day the smallest valid currency in Iraq is a banknote of 250 dinars (=5000 Dirhams) and all the small value metal coins are not in use anymore.

Thank you aws22 and eurocoin for the details. I normally collect Republic India coins and saw this with the local dealer. He insisted that its silver and I just wanted to be sure.

I was relying on the details of the coin provided by him, unfortunately itís incorrect.

Again, a big thank you 🙏

Thank you yougotmi, the last silver 50 Fils (Dirham) was issued in 1959 during General Abdul Karim Qasim era, it had a silver content of 0.500. Weight 5.0 gm and diameter 23 mm. May be your local dealer was mixing up between the two coins.

Ok. The local dealer donít have detailed info about coins. They just want to make money based upon the content of the coin.

Your coin looks awesome.
