Nice specimen with the whole "ShaLiPha" present on flan !

Above the bul is a clear indication of "SuRiTaNa" making this a Mas'ud Shah issue. The complete legend would be "Sri ALaDiNa SuRiTaNa".

The reference to the Caliph is not uncommon. Also Iltutmish, Raziyya Sultana an Muhammad bin Tughluq issued coins in name of the caliphh.

I can think of several reasons for this:
- The caliph was the highest religious authority and named as such on many Islamic coins.
- Many Indian rulers legitimized their rule by referring to the grandiose hereditary bloodline of their dynasty. Iltutmish was a relatively new ruler, who could not boast with his noble ancestry. The recognition by the caliph helped the Turks rulers to legitimize their rule.
