fiji 1983 and 1984 coins
« on: June 08, 2019, 04:23:13 AM »
Anyone ever seen any 1983 or 1984 Fijian coins that aren't from sets? I believe they're meant to exist (based on what catalogues say at least) but looking at ebay the only coins I can see are in sets.

Of those I believe that only the 1 Cent and 2 Cents of 1984 were available normally (i.e. they were not just issued in sets).

For 1983 and 1984 dates for Fiji the SCWC mintages have been amended in error over the past 10 years or so. Compare them against the mintages for other years and you should be able to see that they don't fit the trench/pattern of the other mintages... rather high and same for each denomination.

Thanks Mr Paul Baker

looking at the 1994 Krause issue the following mintages are reported,

1983 - all denoms.  3,000 pieces only
1984 - 1 ct 2,295,000 : 2 ct 1,845,000 : 5ct to 50ct - no mintage listed.
always willing to trade modern UK coins for modern coins from elsewhere....

Yeah they didn't seem right - thanks.

Ah nice, thanks - the 3,000 in 1983 would be for mint sets.
So somewhere along the way the numbers have been messed up...
