Another recent addition, quite worn, but scarce.

Umayyads in Spain, Muhammed II al-Mahdi, 399-400 H, Dirhem, al-Andalus 399 H, 3.52 gm, 6, 23.7 mm, Album 356.1 (s); Vives 681

Muhammed's short reign, just 9 months, was the beginning of the 22 years of chaos which led to the breakup of the Spanish Caliphate into the more than 30 Taifa states.

Nice seeing you getting a whole series of the Spanish Umayyads. I have to read up a bit on their history again when time allows.

(I see you have the same problem as i have, which of the consonants is the double one in the different dynasty names  ??? ? ;D Abbasid and Umayyad, just looked it up again to be certain  ;))

Quite worn? Almost all details are quite clear. :-*

Your pictures are so much better than those in Cayón that I'll add his catalogue number here: 496.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Anthony, that will teach me to post at half past 12 in the morning: I plead digit trouble due to tiredness :-[
