Aruba 5 Florin
« on: October 18, 2009, 08:22:16 PM »
Does anyone have the round Aruba 5 Florin (KM-38)?
In principle, it should not be more difficult to find than the square one (KM-12), but it somehow seems to be.
Maybe it was issued only in sets.

any help is welcome
cheers

Don't have it, but only because I do not actively collect pieces from Aruba. Don't think they were issued for sets only: The "Muntalmanak" lists a mintage of 825,000 for the round type in 2005 alone - more than the total mintage of the square one. Later mintages are considerably lower, e.g. 50,000 in 2007 and 20,000 in 2008. But judging from that catalog, '05 should not be too difficult to get ...

It is a coin that's so far eluded me too, the square coin was not easy to find either.

Here's an official notice concerning the withdrawal of the square 5 Florin and replacement with the round issue.

With a little help from some fellow forum members, I add a scan of two of my new purchases.

The link to the website to buy them from was sent by someone from India, then coin was bought by someone in the Netherlands - then posted to me....  thanks all :)

Lovely coin AJG. The 8 sided beaded outline reminds of the seven sided Indian Rupee from the 1980s, KM79.*
