A Dutch Disco transport token
« on: May 08, 2019, 07:31:09 PM »
Plastic token, blue with gold lettering, like the tokens for a drink, but this one for transport. Diameter is 29 mm.

O: DISCOVERVOER / 05130 / 22110 / HEERENVEEN
R: discotheek / BACCHUS / Heerenveen

Discovervoer = Disco transport ie to and from the disco

An interesting token. I note it does not have a value stated so presumably transport is provided freely to get patrons there as a form of advertising?

Yes. The far East is the "empty" part of the Netherlands and with an ageing population, it is getting emptier. Drinking and dancing are important to the young and innocent, but everything is "far". A free bus service brings in customers, but it's also a benefit for other motorists, who can feel marginally less threatened by young human cannonballs behind a steering wheel.

There are more such tokens, but the majority is not in Kooij, as the author restricted his catalogue to metallic tokens. In the case of beer/waiter tokens he has a point. However, I think this one would fit in on the Dutch transport tokens page. Do we have a diameter?

I now also got two varieties of the consumption token from this disco. These are the same size and colour of to the "discovervoer" token and one side of the token is identical. They would be hard to ditinguish when changed for a drink especially with a low level of lighting. So I now assume that these are not actually for a bus or taxi ride but just adverts for this service.

The way the transport service operates is that you have to reserve your ride in advance, hence the telephone number, and you had to have a ticket. The ticket could be a token or a paper ticket. At present reservation is made by internet and after payment you receive a ticket with bar code to be printed or saved on your mobile.

I also have a set of tokens from another disco in Heerenveen: "De Muis". The telephone number is identical to that on the Bacchus token.  The telephone number on the two tokens differs because of a change in numbering system effected in october 1995. The tokens thus date from the mid 90's.

I also show the "normal" consumption token of which both sides are identical. The same comments apply as for the Bacchus token.

The diameter of the tokens is 29 mm

Muzikaal Bootwateren is a music festival in Hollum (Ameland).

Token to travel from the ferry to the festival by bus. The busdriver took half of the token. With the other half, you could travel back to the ferry.

24 x 24 mm

From the Newspaper “de Gelderlander” of April 5, 2007:
Taxi company Venderbosch was declared bankrupt.
And: The company was started in 1966 in Doetinchem and moved to Varsseveld in 2000. The company was known for its regional disco transport service.

Is it known what the token was used for? It might have been used as a token to pay for transport.

Thank you! All tokens and comments added. BTW, I do not have or claim a monopoly on adding anything on WoT. Any registered member can create or modify information. I am available for assistance, though.
