« on: April 27, 2019, 12:05:07 AM »
This is a very thin coin with crude calligraphy.
Could be Safavid or something completely different.

Weight: 0.62gr
Size:17mm

Quite crude, yes, and judging from the silence, very hard to read. The thin lines are typical of sand casting, where the design is drawn directly into the mould with a sharp object. If this is indeed a sand cast, it is likely to be a contemporary counterfeit, which would be interesting.

I didn't see this post... I think I can read "Shah Tahma...Khan" and part of "al-'adl"?
likely Tahmasp Shah I / Safavid
on the other face, it seems there is the faith formula with Muhammad in a square  ??? but it is not clear....
The weight well fits with a bisti (1/10 of a mahmudi or 20 dinars); this coin is recorded by R.Matthee / table 4.2 of Monetary History of Iran.

Interesting and no doubt a rare coin.

Thank you very mch Saro.
For the other side I had no idea of the orientation. I had one chance out of 4 to orientate it correctly. So it could well be wrong.
