This is a billion jital of Muhammad Sam from Lahore.
Obv: al sultan al azam muhammad bin sam in Arabic
Rev: horseman to right
Wt: 3.26 gm
Dia: 15.2 mm
Ref: D12

I see you are gradually completing this category. Compared to the D09 you showed previously, the style of the horseman is virtually identical. Big question is, why does one have the bull on the reverse and the other the Lahore style Arab text ? Was the bull/horseman type the predecessor of the other from the same mint, or were these produced independently ?

Hi,
I recently was fortunate enough to pick up some sultanate coins from a very a senior collector hence wanted to fill up some of the gaps of index.
But you put up a very interesting question that I hope other seniors of the forum will discuss. I just wanted to further point out the D13 coin was issues from Lahore and that had Arabic script both sides, so it should be either D9 to D13 or the other way around.
Attaching my D13.
Obverse: Al-sultan al-mu'azzam mu'izz al-dunya wa'l din.
Reverse: Abu'l muzaffar muhammad bin sam.

Unfortunately, there seems to be not much historice evidence. Also reliable hoard data is scarce.
