Another nice find from my recent lot that I identified from a search

Main line Sultans in Cairo » al-Nasir Salah al-Din Yusuf I (Saladin), 564-589 » AE fals, as sole ruler » Dimashq

Salah al din Yusuf ibn Ayyub, is more commonly known as Saladin and famous for being the foe of Richard the Lionheart during the crusades.

Congratulations, capn. A "nice find" seems a bit of an understatement. Richard is of course much romanticised (blame Walter Scott), but his behaviour at Acre and his probable role in the death of Conrad of Montferrat show him in a different light. Ironically, in the Arab world, Saladin was long forgotten until emperor Wilhelm II insisted on visiting his grave in Damascus in 1898, so at least part of the attraction of this coin is due to the man the Windsors called uncle Willie. ;)

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
