Surprisingly, it seems that no coins of these series have been yet posted on WoC...
Pilmar / Lesbos.
Greece acceded to autonomy in 1830 after a 10 years struggle with the ottomans but it isn't before the 1st balkans war in1912 that the island of Lesbos has been free.
This 40 para coin of Abdulmejid I dated 1255 AH / ry 22 (1860 AD) shows multiple counterstamps:
rev. : " λ " (9 o'clock )
obv. : a round counterstamp dated (1)306 AH at time of Abdul Hamid II : "Pilmar belediyesi" /" پیلمار  at 12 o'clock,
a (stylized ?)" π " at 4 o'clock and " Δπ  " at 9 o'clock.

There is a very nice website to identify the countermarks[/url] on 40 para from Ottoman Empire.
Superb  :perfect: thank you very much !

Here is my example: when cataloguing it years ago I read the date as 1308, but that website (thanks for the link saro) only seems to have the choice of 1301 and 1306. Looking at mine again I can't swear to any of these dates.

I have a total of 8 of these countermarked pieces, but this is the only 40 para. Perhaps I can start posts for 20 and 10 paras and others can weigh in with their examples.

On the first coin, the counterstamp on the left photo at 8 o'clock is indeed probably λ (Lesbos?), but there is an outside possibility that it is γ.

Since Δ is a capital, I presume the rest is two letters ΤΤ, rather than π, which is not a capital. However, since P could stand for Pilmar, it may also be an improvisation for lack of a capital P. That still leaves the delta to explain.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

According to the website altay found it stands for Δ(ημογεροντία) Π(λωμαρίου). Google Translate makes this 'Elders of Plomari' which seems fairly logical.
