The animal is depicted sometimes as an ass (Valentine 47 p.135) or as a rabbit
I would say rather that's a lying dog... with a collar and a leash.

Definitely not a Rabbit  hard to tell if it's a lying dog ( is that one that does not tell the truth  )   many of the die engravers fail when it comes to depicting an animal and this one is a particularly crude attempt.
