Excellent point. Having missed his birth (1888), Monnet should have his coin in 2019. Why wait until 2029 or even 2038? Surely, Monnet is more important than the star circled banner :-\.

This design would certainly pass, if you could just get the powers that be to consider it. I would go for something that's more about the idea behind the man, but I realise tastes in many member states will be different. I would take as a basis for inspiration this quote:

There will be no peace in Europe if the states are reconstituted on the basis of national sovereignty.

It is the shortest way to formulate his continental (i.e. non-Atlanticist) and supra-nationalist convictions. It brings out the idea - which goes much farther than trade promotion - and the man and it is relevant today.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
