Hi all,
Recently have added a beautiful Jahangiri rupee (20% overweight) of Qandahar mint. The coin is dated as 1021AH/Ry7. The coin contains the 'Sakhat Nurani couplet'. It reads 'Ruye Zar ra Sakhat Nurani, ba Rang Mihr wa Mah.. Shah Nuruddin Jahangir ibn Akbar badshah' meaning 'Surface of gold was made illiminous with the the colour of Moon and Sun by Nuruddin Jahangiir son of Emperor Akbar. Complete mint name and dual dated. It is also worth noting that heavyweight coins were stopped from ry6. However this coin is dated as ry7. Probably the mint was late to know that the heavyweight rupee had been discontinued in western frontier of Qandahar.
Cheers and do comment

With Qandahar being on the frontier, and an important place on the route to the hinterland, I do not think it would have taken long for the information to have reached the mint master. However there could be some other more simple reasons:
1) The mint master was lazy and used the old blanks without remelting them - any way it may have cost the same to get the coin made again.
2) The mint Master was a cheat - he minted these heavy coins from old blanks for personal gain.
3) There was some disturbance in the area and the mint master did not have the time to implement the order immediately / or was not in the mint at the time.
4) The mint master took his own decision as to when to implement the royal order - like we have in some mints in Gujarat - Junagadh minted coins in the name of Shah Jahan till the time of his death even thought he was imprisoned and there were two claimants - Murad Baksh, Aurangzeb Alamgir in whose names the capital of the suba (Ahmedabad) had minted coins.

BTW, a nice acquisition.

Thanks Amit ji. Could be any of the reason. In absence of written documents, we can only guess.
Regarding this particular coin, I have seen very few with such complete mint name online and elsewhere.

A very nice coin with an interesting character. Good find, abhinumis.
