An excellent acquisition, Couplet coins of Jahangir are very beautiful, you should feel proud being owner of one of them!

I would admire Jahangir coinage due to his insight for precise artistic taste , particularly I'm fascinated by zodiac coins.

One of my target is to acquire few zodiac coins  ( from private collectors) even though  beyond reach & expensive for average collector like me.

Cheers ;D

Why not collect the pictures? At least that way you can have a complete set.

The coin is dated AH1030/Ry.16. The Hijri date is written just below sikkah on the reverse. The Ry. Is shown to the of Jaha of Jahangir.
A similar coin, struck just one year earlier can be seen here.

The Inayat-couplet reads as follows:
sikka zad dar ahmadabad az enayate elah
shah nur al-din jahangir ibn akbar badshah

(Struck money at Ahmadabad, by the blessings of God
Shah Nur al-Din Jahangir, son of Akbar Badshah.)

With Jan sir's guidance I'm now able to read the whole couplet... Thanks a lot Jan sir(Oesho).. Really awesome calligraphy and a piece of art. During Jahangir's time I think India was producing the most stylish and elegant coins in the world!!

On the coinage of Jahangir over 50 different poetic couplets can be found. A collection in its own, but unfortunately some appear only on gold, zodiac and multiple mohurs and therefore only a dream to bring such a collection together. Nevertheless the coins of Jahangir are indeed the highlight of Mughal numismatics.
