I think that the 2010 British Commonwealth Games will be commemorated on Indian coins,as it is the major event being hosted by India in that year.
Even I think so.When we had hosted Asian Games in 1982,there were few commemorative coins issued with the that theme (but boring design)..Hopefully will see something interesting this time..

For sure, the Comonwealth Games will be commemorated. The design will depend upon the the firm or organization who is given the task of designing the coins. If the task is given to a design school then you can expect the coins on the lines of the new regular issue coins. I hope some real good coins are designed.

Most likely, the coins will depict the Common Wealth Games Logo or its Mascot (Shera). Incidentally, the CWG 2010 logo is a professionally designed and beautiful logo. It shows humanoid forms leaping from a flame.  It is much better than the Asiad 82 logo.

I think that your 2010 logo is vastly better than what we in the UK will have to endure for the next few years.

Bill, you have my full sympathies. Even after scratching my head for three times, ;D i could not make head or tail out of London logo.
Delhi CWG logo is much better.

That London logo is basically the four digits of the year, thus "20" in the upper line and "12" in the lower line. What I like about it - they use the same logo (with only minor variations) for both the Olympics and the Paralympics. What I don't like about it - well, the logo. :)  And yes, the Delhi Commonwealth Games logo with the "spiral" is attractive. Would look good even without any color, thus on a "regular" coin.

My guess is that the Delhi one was designed and that the London one was designed by a committee.

I feel that we can eliminate famines and Robert Clive. First war of independence and Gandhi can also be ruled out since GOI has already issued coins on them. So my list will be:
• Harappa / Indus valley civilization
• Ashoka the Great
• Akbar the Great
• Taj Mahal
• Rabindranath Tagore
• Mother Teresa
• Swami Vivekananda
For depicting the commemorative coins on Indus valley civilization, I have a suggestion. We can use the world famous Harappan Seal of Bull, which was probably the first coinage of the subcontinent

After passing of two and a quarter years; we already have confirmation of at least three issues from above:
• Rabindranath Tagore
• Mother Teresa
• Swami Vivekananda
