Bad news guys who have ordered the UNC or the Proof Sets. They take a (yawn) amount of time to deliver, 6 months!!!!!

I got this reply when I dropped them an email to check up on my order.

Sir,

We have received your payment for Homi Bhabha coin set

As per the delivery schedule, the delivery will commence probably from
November, 2010 onwards

regards

i.g. mint, mumbai

Bimat

No surprises there, this is a 'normal' delivery time for all the Indian mints. Also note that it says that the delivery will commence PROBABLY from November 2010! >:(

But I have seen these sets with the dealers. Don't know how they manage to get the sets so early. ??? ???

My friend, that is exactly why the mint takes 6 months to send it to the collector.............

Huh!!!! :o :o :o :o

Abhay, from where do the dealers get these sets even before the delivery period? ???
Internal setting with the mint guys, is it? Cant we file a RTI or something?

This is seriously disgusting to see that the mints cater more to dealers rather then consumers like us!!!!

Yeah, I had read their rules and regulations for delivery (6-9 months). I wonder what do they do by taking so much time. The slowest animal on the planet Sloth, would also do things more faster then them. ;D

Earlier, the Mints used to make special bulk bookings for the Coin Socities and clubs. Also the limit for an individual was 6 sets per person. Maybe the dealers are still taking advantage of these bulk bookings. But still, the basic question remains - how and why do they get the sets so early? Maybe you are right that these dealers have some inside links with the Mint staff.

I now got two Homi Bhabha coins (numismatica, you are a champion), but between my bad eyesight and look-alike mintmarks, I have seen a dot, a star, a diamond and the head of George W. Bush below the date, depending on how the light falls :-[. asm's picture of Noida was very helpful. Can someone show a blow-up of the other other mintmarks?

Peter,

The diamond of the Mumbai mint comes in all sorts of shapes - from almost a square (rotated 45 degrees) to an elongated one with the vertical being (almost) twice the horizontal side. The dot (of Noida) on some coins appears almost like a square and quite often is so poorly engraved that one needs to locate it using a magnifier with the coin held angular under direct sunlight so that the mark can be spotted. If one is not careful, it would very easily pass off as Kolkatta mint.

As to the head of GWB (which one - I or II?), must congratulate you on the find.  It would need Sad..m H....in's eyes to spot it.

Didn't know that single UNC (or BU?) Bhabha coin was also issued by mint, thanks for the link! Interestingly I haven't seen any dealer offering it here-even in the last fair I attended last weekend..Indian mints have now learnt to make money.. ::) From previous experiences,we can expect the issue price of 150 INR (just a guess).

I won't be buying one such piece for myself,as I already have the raw version 8)

A similar coin was listed by the same dealer for Anna 5 Rupee. Luckily, I could purchase the coin form the ebay.

When I contacted the seller, he told me that these coins are privately made, and not issued by the Mints. Nevertheless, I think they are still good for collection as a new variety.

If these so called coins are privately made, they shouldn't be called 'coins' and they don't have any numismatic value either IMO.In short they are NCNLT (Non Circulating,Non Legal Tender).
