Ancient Arabian Coin
« on: July 31, 2018, 09:31:06 PM »
Hello all,

Some twenty-five years ago, I received this coin and did not feel the need to gather information about the coin. Recently, I have tried to find information about the coin, and I have not been able to find any information regarding its origin or denomination. I would appreciate any information regarding its origin, denomination and current approximate value. I am including some information about the coin.

Weight: 12.238 grams
Diameter: 29.26 mm.

I would appreciate any information regarding the coin.

Irfan.

This is an Indian islamic 'temple token', see this post for details: http://www.worldofcoins.eu/forum/index.php/topic,6685.msg43164.html#msg43164

It is relatively modern, probably late 19th-early 20th century, and they are usually available for less than 10 in the UK (I bought one of the Hindu ones for 8 a fortnight ago).

One of the standard references is: Brotman, I.F., A guide to the temple tokens of India, Los Angeles 1970.
