Unknown ancient, possibly Judean?
« on: July 28, 2018, 04:26:44 PM »
I have this coin fragment, 14 mm in diameter and weighs 1.07 grams. The front looks like it says 1078 in Islamic numerals, but the reverse seems to have non-Islamic lettering, the design reminds me a bit of some Judean coins.

I believe this coin is too old to carry Islamic numerals, as it was issued in Classical Antiquity. This is lettering, not numerals.

Thanks, I agree with you. Just people were suggesting this may be an Islamic coin because of the resemblance to Islamic numerals on the front but IMO it does not look like an Islamic coin but an earlier pre-Islam coin.

If itís Greek, the obverse suggests IOUL.
