Weights from Heidelberg
« on: July 08, 2018, 02:48:22 PM »
The city has other priorities, but for me, the best tourist attraction in Heidelberg is the Deutsches Apotheken-Museum (link in German, more nice pictures). Among many other exhibits are some very interesting items shown here.
  • French balance with nested weights in box.
  • German pocket coin balance box and weights.
  • Glass weight set from the GDR.
  • German nested weights, nicely decorated lid.
  • German nested weight set, weights taken out.
  • Thai opium weights.
  • Russian porcelain weight set.
The small Russian weights had to be handled with tweezers, as human skin fat and sweat would have added an unacceptable amount of weight.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
