Islamic Ar 20.23 mm 2.46g Eight Sided Star Al Fateh Khan
« on: June 25, 2018, 02:52:40 AM »
I bought an interesting Islamic AR which measures 20.23 mm  and weighs approximately 2.46g.  It has eight  pointed stars on both the obverse and the reverse with an arch over it.   I believe that the obverse reads  in the name of " Al Fateh Khan".    It appears more Ilkhanid or Persian in style to me.  Any ideas would be appreciated.  Pogh_poor

Yes, "Al Fateh khan" and isn't it "Uthman" on the other face?

Could it by Ayyubid?

Really puzzling  ???
"al-Fateh Khan" leads to think rather of a mongol ruler (Ilkhan, Aq Qoyunlu ?); "Uthman" was only a suggestion and is doubtful.
(the Ayyubid coins of Uthman, son of Saladin, are not of this style).
On the other hand, coins of some Qarakhanids rulers shows a similar design : 2 combined squares giving a eight pointed stars; see here.

It is a dirhem, I think of Suleiman II, from Morocco, KM C 108b.2,  Album 622.

The obverse has 'aam' (year) above the date (I think I see 1220, but a better picture might help). See https://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=39739 for a similar double square arrangement. The reverse has the mint, which I am pretty sure is Rabat (see https://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=39738 for an earlier issue)

It does not appear to be similar to those coins.  It does not have a solid circle inset but rather a scalloped border around the star. It appears quite different from the  Moroccan coins.

Don't know what you base that on. Have you followed the links to Zeno? Here's another similar coin illustrated in KM.
