Discussion: Rumours of 20 Rupees coin

Saw a link to this article (from mid-June) the other day. Any more recent info regarding the ₹20 coin?

The text says Bimetallic but shows a monometalic example.

The whole series is under redesign.
The work was awarded to NID ( National Institute of Design), Ahmedabad, about a month back.
Prof AK Sinha ( who designed the three series, minted 2004-10) in longer in service and work is being done by Prof Subir Das.

Should be out by end of this year.

The coins or merely the design (and metal composition) of the coins?

Next year is a General Election year.
Political mileage can be obtained only if it is issued this year.

On one hand, vaults of RBI are full upto brim with minted coins ( RBI refused to accept more and mints stopped minting) whereas there is shortage of coins reported in many parts. All this due to impractical distribution system.
Even if the new coins are designed, approved and minted, their availability to general public is not likely.
I expect some special mode to issue and ensure actual circulation sometime between October and December 2018, barring unforeseen circumstances.

The samples made for VIPs and for approval are made of proof quality hence they always look attractive.
You failed to confirm if they were Bimetallics, of the indicated non- circular shape and what was on the obverse.
Perhaps, you confirm that Chinese have produced the coin before India does, as indicated by Patney in reply#14 of this thread.

Are you sure that 20 Rupees coin will be re,eased before Diwali?
I heard the same about 20 Rupees new series note being issued before Diwali. That is the only note of new series note pending ( excluding 500 Rupees notes, if it is decided to be issued at all).

Also, it appears that entire new coin series is Gandhi oriented series with his trademark spectacle being there along with Chaparan movement centenary etc.

Wait till some thing official comes out.

Yes, I heard this at the last Numismatics meet happened last month in Banagalore and its about coin and not the banknote. Need to wait for official confirmation.
