Ethiopian coins of 1977.

In 1977 Ethiopia issued a new coin series.

The designs were by Stuart Devlin.

The lion head design was used as the common obverse.

The other designs were socialist in nature.

The one exception was the mountain nyala on the 10 santeem coin.

Zimbabwe, $2, 1997.   Pangolin.

The only issued design I have seen of a pangolin.

It appeared on the Zimbabwean $2 coin of 1997.

I do not know who designed it.

Cotton plant.

Here you see a typical cotton plant.

There are various species.

This plant has spiky leaf tips.

The leaf-tips on the Ethiopian designs are rounded.

THE DESIGNER

The issued designs were the work of the late Australian artist and sculptor, Stuart Devlin.

I presume that he also produced the design featuring the scene at Axum.
