Victoria was Queen from 1837 to 1901 of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and from 1876
She was the first British monarch who bore the title of Empress of India.
As a constitutional monarch, she was a pro forma ruler over one fifth of the Earth and one third of the world population.
Victoria reigned 63 years and 7 months, longer than any other British monarch before her.
Through their numerous offspring, she received the nickname "Grandmother of Europe".
It was because of their long reign namesake for the Victorian era.

Ah, the Jubilee Head, I believe.   A wonderful coin and I wonder how many countries it would have been valid in.   I think that, in its time, it would probably have been acceptable over most of the world.

It's a striking portrait. The "head" I remember best is what I call her "mourning head", though I don't know it's accepted name. Typically I'd find it on a 1901 dated penny when I was a child in the early 1960s.

I think you'll find that the 'mourning head' from about 1893, but varies slightly with the denomination, is generally known as 'old head'.   This gives the order 'young head' or 'bun' - 'jubilee head' - 'old head'.

"Veiled head" is another term used for this obverse, but "Old" would appear to be the standard form these days.
