Saudi Arabia - Hejaz 1/2 Ghirsh 1343 KM-2.1 Variation ?
« on: April 08, 2018, 09:38:58 PM »
Hello,

My last acquisition is a Saudi Arabia - Hejaz 1/2 Ghirsh 1343 KM-2.1, See pictures (from seller).
As the design is quite different than those posted on Zeno or Numista I wonder if I got here a variation ?
Zeno coins :
https://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=86853
https://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=180898
https://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=2217
Numista coin :
https://fr.numista.com/catalogue/pieces36519.html

In my opinion, that coin looks more like a recut die or a crude contemporary imitation than a modern deceptive forgery but I'd like to have your point of view...
Thank you

Here a link on Ebay showing a similar coin (same die cracks and details) :

Hello,
I think it is an authentic coin but a doubt still remains as that die don't seems recorded
Nobody has an idea ?
Thank you !

I think it's a modern fake. Having a die-identical coin on eBay is suspicious enough, but the crude script and the angularity of the top of letters clinches it.

Thank you Peter,
I'm quite embarrassed with that coin and don't know if I should cancel my order...
I still don't have paid and I need your opinion about the seller (awcoins) before act https://www.ebay.fr/usr/awcoins?_trksid=p2057872.m2750.l2754

Again many thanks to everybody for the help with fakes !!!

I am fallible. ;D Wait for other opinions. You have two courses of action:
  • Accept the deal. Be pleasantly surprised if I turn out to be wrong and shrug and regard what you paid as an education fee if it's a fake. The risk is yours.
  • Reject the deal. No risk.
What you paid would play an important role. Too much? Reject. About right? Reject and wait for the next offer. Bargain? Your appetite for risk is decisive.

Seller with the die-identical coin also list the "classic" designed coin for the same price
See here the "normal die" coin from same seller

So I really don't know what to do with my coin  ???

awcoins is a Korean American. He might be an expert on Hejaz, but I doubt it. Egycoins is Egyptian. He's likely to know more about them.

Here the answer I received

"Hello ,

Thank you for your interest and for contacting me .

Those 2 coins are not machine strike but hammer strike , so same coins might be a lot different from each other because there are many factors can affect producing those coins including but not limited to where it was mint , condition of the host coin and sure the mint house .

Those exact 2 coins were purchased at Baldwin auction house about a year ago .

Kind regards

Hany"
