Rhodesia, 2 shillings / 20 cents, 1964. The Zimbabwe soapstone bird.




Rhodesia, 20 cents, 1975. The Zimbabwe soapstone bird.




Zimbabwe, 25 dollars, dated 2003 but actually issued a few years later.

Papua New Guinea, 1 toea, 1975. 

This coin was demonetised in 2006.





Papua New Guinea, 50 toea, 2012.


The design features a Paradise birdwing butterfly (Ornithoptera paradisea).

Fiji: 1 cent and $2 coins.


Fiji issued a 1 cent coin in 1969.

It featured a tanoa on the reverse.

A tanoa is a bowl for holding the kava drink.


The 1 cent coin was demonetised in 2009.

A $2 coin was issued in 2013 (dated 2012).

The reverse design a tanoa.

This tano has a rope attached to it.

The Solomon Islands.

The 2 cents coin was demonetised after 2011.

In 2012 the country issued a new series of smaller, lighter coins.

The 50 cents coin then acquired the old 2 cents design.

The old 50 cents reverse had featured the coat of arms.

Just one of each? But there were hundreds of them, and she appears on some non-UK coins too.

Comoros, 5 francs, 1964.




Comoros, 5 francs, 1984.

Above (top) you see the colonial 5 francs coin of 1964.

The pictorial reverse design was shared by the 1, 2 and 5 francs coins.


Below that is that 1984 5 francs coin of independent Comoros.

It adopted the old 5 francs reverse at its obverse design.

Tunisia, 2 dinars, 2013.

Above (top) you see the first low denomination coins of independent Tunisia.

They were first issued in 1960 and share an obverse design of a cork tree.


Tunisia added a 2 dinars coin in 2013.

It adapted the old tree design for use on the new coin.
