There are various competing explanations, so the XION piece remains a mystery, in my opinion.

I like these coins. The central bank gives the specifications of the 2012 mint set only:

Metal                 Cu-Ni                           AlBr
Denomination    10c        20c      50c       $1      $2
Mass (g)            2.29      2.79     3.64     6.00    8.00
Diameter (mm)  17.00    19.00   21.00    21.14  24.70
Finish   Uncirculated
Mintage   5000

The alloy of the 10-50 cents is listed as Cu-Ni. Does someone know whether this is an error or the coins in the set differ from the coins in circulation?

Thanks for the update, Stef. I took the specifications from numista.com, and they also seem to match those in Gerhard Schön's world coin catalogue. But - I only have the 1977 set, plus the two 50 cent coins of the 1980s, so I don't know which is right.

Yes. The circulation 10-50 cents are Nickel plated steel and are magnetic.

So, can any Solomon Island collectors confirm the existence of any of the following coins:
1989 1c
1989 2c
1980 5c (not Franklin Mint)
1987 5c
1989 5c
1978 20c (not Franklin Mint)
1987 20c
They're all reported by catalogues.
