Ottoman, Tunis, Mahmud II, Billon Piastre, AH1243,  Tunis mint

The coin has a security edge,  11.43g

Nicely conserved!

I am much more familiar with Islamic symbolism, now that I have seen so many beautiful coins on this site and I realise now how arch-conservative this coin is. The lobed diamond, the little "knot" and the dividers can all be found on much earlier coins. The Ottoman empire, slowly, very slowly, falling apart, leaving North Africa open to colonialists. What a wonderfully informative hobby this is...

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

I agree, this is a coin I was given as a child, most likely from an uncle who was in North Africa during national service and got it in a local market as a souvenir
