Derek C Gorringe was born in Kent, England, in 1932.  I do not know whether he is still alive.

He is shown here working on the UK round pound design of 1988.

#1

Liberia, $5, 1982.

The design above was first issued in 1982 then again in 1985. It commemorates the seizure of power by Samuel Doe and his People's Redemption Council and shows a military memorial.

See: Liberia: identifying a military memorial:

"The Statue of the Unknown Soldier, the monument depicted a soldier with fixed bayonet. On the occasion of the second anniversary of the Revolution, a five-dollar Liberia coin with a replica of the soldier statue was minted and circulated."

The design was produced by Derek Gorringe, to sketches supplied.

UK, 1 pound, 1988.

In the UK, Mr Gorringe is best known for producing the reverse design for the UK pound coin of 1988.

It featured the Royal Arms of Her Majesty The Queen, surmounted by the Crown of St Edward.

#4

São Tomé e Príncipe (St. Thomas and Prince), 1990, 50 dobras.

Derek Gorringe produced this charming FAO-themed design, featuring a snake and a bird.

Unfortunately, the surviving Royal Mint documentation does not reveal the species of these creatures.

Falkland Islands, 2 pounds, 1991.

Derek Gorringe designed this reverse of this coin.

It celebrates the 10th wedding anniversary of Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales.

It features silhouettes of the royal couple, as well as St. Paul's Cathedral, where they were married.
