Our French colleagues have requested help for the three coins shown. They were found together in Northern Sumatra, near te Malacca Straits. The original thread is here.

The owner believes they are 14th or 15th century coins of the sultanate of Pasai or the sultanate of Aceh. He sees "Al-Adil" on the two top coins and believes the third is in the shape of a sandalwood flower. He thinks the metal is a tin and lead alloy. Weight is not given. Can you confirm the id?

The coins are not in Netscher & Van der Chijs or Saran Singh. Scholten does not cover them. I maximised contrast to bring out more detail, but this changed the colour.

For those whose Arabic is better than mine (NOT difficult). Extract from Mitchiner's World of Islam

I think the top coin is MWI 3956 and the middle one is MWI 3955, but I'd appreciate confirmation from someone who reads Arabic better than me. Also, does someone have Millies?

I agree : the two top coins shows "al-'adl" on both faces, of which only few parts are legible : "  العادل  "
three faces show  " لعا al- 'a..." and one show the end: " د ل ..dl"

So they are not MWI 3955 and 3956? AFAIK, al-adil is a honorific and doesn't give a clue as to where these coins are from ...

Yes Peter, I'm afraid...
it seems to me that for the 2nd coin there is no room for the full formula "al-'adl" and that it is spread on both faces "al'a " & " dl "  ???

Found Millies in electronic format. The third coin could be Millies 146, while the two other might be 147 and 148 (though the coins in Millies seem too small), but the scan is pretty bad. The legends are largely unreadable. I can't even find out which metal these three coins are.

That could be better the last letter " k ك " of "malik مالك" ? and may give : "al-'adl / Malik "  ?

Thank you, saro. Millies (p. 72) mentions a gold mas with the text الملك العادل (al mulk al adil), which would fit. He says the gold coin is from Aceh and assigns it: (...) commun au rois d'Atjih pendant la XVIe siècle (...) (usual for the 16th century kings of Aceh.)
