Why ancient greek silver coin looks like bronze coin?
« on: February 06, 2018, 06:12:50 AM »
Hi All

I am new to this forum. I am trying to understand ,I have some ancient Greek coin. Though as per cataloger, there are silver but it looks like bronze yellow in natural light.

Does it mean it is fake? or any other reason it is changing color? For example I am giving a ebay link also. I have same coin and it is similarly yellow..But I check all catelog it is saying silver.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ancient-Greek-Roman-200BC-Silver-Coin-Corinth-Pegasus-Corinthia-Horse-Wings-9AD/202213702970?_trkparms=aid%3D888007%26algo%3DDISC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D49923%26meid%3D5963805dd1a34c64896a12ce0fc724a5%26pid%3D100009%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D2%26sd%3D202207982125%26itm%3D202213702970&_trksid=p2047675.c100009.m1982

Can any one please help me.

It's very clear from his eBay sales that he sells nothing but fakes, rather obvious fakes in many cases,  the yellow metal used is brass or spelter which is easy to melt for casting

Thanks a lot Vic. I am big fan of you and go through all your post. You have very sound knowledge. I really surprised why no one reported to ebay about this seller!!!!

I have two coins one looks bronze another looks copper but over internet when I search they looks like only silver version is available. Could you please check if you have any idea of this. Some guy writing it may be mix of bronze and gold!!!.

Are both of them are fake?

I think you should avoid anything they sell,  reporting them to ebay will get no result either, look at his negative feedback & his replies to anyone who complained about fakes
